Ink & Inspiration April Blog Hop - Favourite Tools

Hi Crafters!

Today I'm hopping with the wonderful Ink & Inspiration Design Team & this month, our theme is our favourite tools! I love heat embossing, so that's what I'm showing you today, along with a couple of colouring techniques. I'm showing a bunch of colouring techniques all this week, so make sure you check out my previous posts & there will be a few more to come over the next few days, as well. These cards were some samples I made up for my recent Versamark Class on 20th April.

The sentiment (Basic Black) & butterfly (Silver Heat Embossed) are from the Beautiful Day stamp set. These cards are on Shimmery White cardstock & show the difference when using inks with Aqua Painters or Blender Pens to colour your image.

This first one is using Aqua Painters to pick up the ink. You can either squash the ink pad to get the ink on the lid from the pad or you can use your reinkers to add a drop of ink to the lid or another surface. Add a few drops of water to the ink & then mix & apply with the Aqua Painter for a vibrant, even coverage.

Remember to wipe off your Aqua Painter on a paper towel in between each time you pick up more ink (even if it's the same colour), as when you paint, the colour is drawn into the paper, but some of the water is left on your brush. If you don't wipe off the excess water, then your colour won't be as vibrant on the next turn.

You can fill your Aqua Painter with water or rubbing alcohol & explore the different looks you can achieve. When using rubbing alcohol, your 'paint' will dry very quickly, whereas water will take a bit longer & you can achieve pooling etc with water easier than with rubbing alcohol.

This second image is coloured with the Blender Pens, which are full of rubbing alcohol & give you a look that is more vibrant to start with & the colour thins out as you go along. Be careful not to colour over the same part too much or it will start to pill. You can pick up ink off the lid of the pad or you can just dip right onto the surface of the pad.

You only need ink on the very tip & keep picking up frequently if you want more colour. The ink doesn't come down the nib if you dip it in more, so it just makes it harder to clean if you do that. You can just colour on a scrap piece of paper to get the rest of the ink off the nib.

I hope you've enjoyed my cards & that you try out some heat embossing or colouring techniques soon! You are currently visiting Jessie Holton in Australia, please hop around the list below & leave a little blog love along your way xx

  7. Stunning cards Jessie, I too have come to love using embossing powders because it means I can use my Aqua painters with my inks to paint my images. I love what you have done with this image too. Thank you for the TOP TIP about wiping off the Aqua painter in between each loading of ink. :O)
